When your program locks up, almost everyone is aware that typing CMD—OPTION—ESCAPE will bring up a window which will allow you to Force Quit. However a more convenient way to quit a program is to hold down the CONTROL key while you click on the locked-up program in the dock. Force Quit will then be one of the options.
